National Aviation Day in Baxter County, Arkansas

It occurs every year on 19 August – first established in 1939 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  It is extra special in the Mountain Home area because of the celebration held annually at the airport on the nearest Saturday to that date every year.  .

Sponsored by the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA) in partnership with the Leading Edge Aviation Foundation, this celebration brings together pilots, aviation lovers and curious area residents to experience airplanes flying in to the Baxter County Airport, local “discovery flights”, flight demonstrations, airplane displays, the best of area food trucks and a general festive atmosphere that can be enjoyed by all.  There may even be some aerobatic practice going on over head during this recognition of how far aviation has come since that first flight in 1903 off a Kitty Hawk sand dune.

Plan your weekend activities around this one – and don’t miss being at the airport to see what changed since last year!
